Class in Session

The Wireless Classroom Project is exploring how technology can be used to revolutionize education. At the University of Kentucky we have deployed ``wireless classrooms'' where each student is equipped with a laptop computer and a wireless network card to connect up to the Internet. Our project has two main objectives: (1) to explore wireless network technologies and their potential/limitations, and (2) explore ways to use interactive multimedia to enhance classroom lectures and inclass hands-on experience. . A related objective was to explore the relationship between wireless classrooms and distance learning environments.

This web page reports on our experiences developing and teaching in wireless classrooms. We provide recommendations about what hardware/software we found the most useful and what techniques we found to work the best. Although developed in a university/college setting, we expect that most of our recommedations apply to teachers and instructors at any level K-12. We hope the page serves as a good starting point for your research into wireless classrooms and distance learning.
